The Wolves continued their winning streak after an 89-63 victory in Oxford

Worcester Wolves made it two wins from two on their current extended road trip with an 89-63 win at Oxford Hoops, following their 83-71 win at Cardiff Archers last weekend. writes Colin Taylor.

Thanks to their good recent form, Wolves have a chance of taking top spot in Division One of the National Basketball League if they complete an away hat-trick when they travel to Leicester Warriors next week.

A feature of last week’s conquest of Cardiff was that Georgios Stergiopoulos sank four threes from just five attempts and the Worcester guard was soon off the mark again as the game began in Oxford.

Another player currently in electrifying form, American star Earl Burgess, quickly grabbed nine points as the Wolves took a 12-11 lead.

Emmanuel Yeboah intercepted a bad pass and buried the ball home to give the visitors a 26-21 lead early in the second quarter.

Luan Ferreira and Harry Godwin both had goals in the game, with the latter adding a number of more baskets to give Worcester a 45-38 halftime lead.

By the end of the third period the gap between the teams had doubled to 65-51 as Oxford struggled to contain a surging Yeboah.

At the start of the final quarter, Jesse Kilara and Fin Rennie were on the scoresheet, and after Burgess once again fought to the basket, a comfortable lead of 73:53 was created that left no room for the hosts to turn back.

The men off the bench, Isaiah Dapaah and Pharrell McIntosh, took turns hitting three-pointers to secure the win.

Burgess and Yeboah led the scoring with 19 points each, helped by a season-high 16 points from Godwin.

Wolves’ game at Leicester takes place on Sunday November 30th at 3pm before they return to the University of Worcester Arena to face St Helens on Saturday December 6th at 7.30pm.
