Jamie Carragher says Arne Slot doesn’t deserve the same “unconditional love” as his predecessor

Jamie Carragher has suggested Liverpool manager Arne Slot does not enjoy the same “unconditional love” as his predecessor Jurgen Klopp, as he dismissed early speculation about the Dutchman’s future at Anfield.

The pressure on Slot has increased following the club’s disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, a result which marked their sixth defeat in their last seven Premier League games.

Carragher remarked on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “Winning a league title in your first season is very special, but I feel like he (Slot) doesn’t have the unconditional love and support that Jurgen Klopp always had.”

“Jürgen Klopp has had a few tricky moments in his time – at one point he lost six games in a row at Anfield in the league… but at no point did it feel like people were talking about Jürgen Klopp’s position in the same way they talked about Arne Slot’s position at the weekend.”

“It is the nature of the beast, he is the manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world, but for me there should be no talk or thought that this manager will be out of a job this season.”

Carragher particularly singled out Mohamed Salah, who criticized him for not leading with captain Virgil van Dijk during the losing streak.

Salah has come under criticism from various quarters for his poor form this season, with Carragher’s colleague Wayne Rooney suggesting on Sunday that Slot should consider dropping the Egyptian striker to boost the season.

Carragher added: “A year ago this weekend, Mo Salah was not afraid to speak out and talk about his own situation, about the club not offering him a contract.

“I only ever hear Salah speak when he is voted man of the match or needs a new contract. I would like to see Mo Salah as one of the leaders, one of the legends of Liverpool.”
